We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined our very first webinar following the recent Budget.
Our Financial Planners, Elliott and Stuart provided insightful commentary on the Chancellor’s speech highlighting the potential implications of the changes for investors.
During the session, we addressed several key topics, including:
- Pensions
- Capital Gains Tax
- Inheritance Tax
We received a number of questions in advance and encouraged live inquiries during the webinar, creating an interactive experience for attendees. While we did not provide specific financial advice, our goal was to offer valuable information and reassurance in the wake of the recent budget discussions.
We appreciate your engagement and look forward to hosting more informative sessions in the future!

Client Feedback
We’d like to thank those clients that took the time to write in afterwards with their feedback. This was very much appreciated. Here’s a few comments we’d like to share with you:
Just a quick note to thank you and Stuart for this afternoon’s webinar. It was clear, concise and very helpful, and we look forward to working through its impact and our planning choices when we have our next review meeting.
Additional webinars on topics would be very interesting and helpful, maybe bi-monthly would be frequent enough, but clearly, we can opt in and out based on the relevance of the subject matter. Well done and thank you.
xxx and I watched your webinar together and both found it fascinating and very interesting. We thought your double act with Stuart worked incredibly well please pass on our thanks to him.
Both my husband & I thought you were excellent on the webinar, sharing your knowledge and insight with just the right depth and approach for us. We’ll certainly join any future webinars and look forward to those developments going forward.
Thank you very much for the webinar today – we both watched it and really appreciated it. Would you please remind us of Stuart’s book recommendations so we can get them from the library. It would be great to have a webinar sometime where the Gem team share their best financial books/podcasts etc and what the main take-aways are from them.
Thank you again to all our clients for their insights and encouragement! Your feedback is invaluable.
Recommended Reading
Below is a list of the books that Stuart mentioned during the webinar, including Amazon links and relevant ISBN information:
- Same As Ever by Morgan Housel (2023) – Same as Ever: Timeless Lessons on Risk, Opportunity and Living a Good Life, from the Bestselling Author of ‘The Psychology of Money’: Amazon.co.uk: Morgan Housel: 9781804090633: Books
However, Morgan’s first book – The Psychology of Money – is incredibly popular and more related to money itself than history. It may be a better starting point, but they are ‘sister’ books, rather than one designed to be a sequel to the other. Morgan has an incredible talent to weave stories and anecdotes about history into how we think about investing, spending money, and time. The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness: Amazon.co.uk: Morgan Housel: 9780857197689: Books
The second book was:
- Just Keep Buying by Nick Maggiulli (2022) –Just Keep Buying: Proven ways to save money and build your wealth: Amazon.co.uk: Nick Maggiulli: 9780857199256: Books
This one is a bit more on the numbers side but is still a relatively easy read. It is written from a US perspective, but there are a lot of transferrable terms ‘IRA’ is a personal pension. The concepts are broadly applicable but is a bit more financially focused.
Both also have blogs which are free to read and serve as a good introduction to the writing style.
We hope these recommendations pique your interest! If you decide to buy any of these books or listen to the podcasts, we would love to hear your thoughts. Your feedback helps us share more valuable content.
